Should You Provide Food and Refreshments for Your Wedding Suppliers?

The short answer? It’s never a bad idea. As a close up magician, it’s not something I personally demand in my contract. I’m there to perform, entertain your guests and help create an amazing atmosphere. Whether I’m booked for two hours or all day, I’ll always bring the same energy and professionalism. That said, when suppliers are looked after, it genuinely means a lot. Recently, I performed at a wedding where the hospitality completely blew me away. What started as a simple room change around booking turned into one of those evenings that reminds you why weddings are such brilliant events to be part of. Not only was there an incredible buffet, but there was cake, Krispy Kreme donuts, late-night kebabs and a constant stream of “Go on, grab yourself a drink!” from the couple and family guests. And they genuinely meant it. I never expect to be treated like a guest at a wedding, but being included in that way completely changed the atmosphere of the evening for me. Instead of simply arriving, performing and heading off, I felt part of the celebration. And honestly? Suppliers notice these things. Whether it’s your photographer on their feet for 10 hours, your DJ setting up from midday, or your magician mingling with guests throughout the evening, a drink, a meal or simply checking in to see if they’re okay goes a long way. It’s not about extravagance either. No supplier is expecting a three-course meal and champagne on tap. Even something as simple as: It can make a huge difference. One thing this wedding also reminded me of is why I try not to cram multiple bookings into one day. Of course, it can be tempting as a wedding supplier to squeeze in another event before or after yours, especially during busy season. But evenings like this prove why I prefer to give couples my full attention wherever possible. When you feel genuinely valued by a client, the last thing you want to do is rush off to the next gig. You stay longer chatting with guests. You relax into the atmosphere. You become part of the celebration rather than just another supplier ticking off a booking in the diary. And I honestly believe couples feel the benefit of that too. Happy suppliers tend to create an even better atmosphere. When people feel appreciated, they naturally go the extra mile. The energy becomes more relaxed, more personal and more memorable for everyone involved. Of course, every wedding budget is different, and no reasonable supplier should make couples feel pressured into providing food or refreshments if it’s simply not possible. But if you can include your suppliers in some small way, it’s always appreciated more than you probably realise. And who knows… your magician might just turn into someone leaving your wedding feeling genuinely grateful to have been part of it.

Why the New Forest is Perfect for Wedding Entertainment – and My Favourite Venues to Perform Magic At

The New Forest has become one of the UK’s most sought-after wedding destinations — and it’s easy to see why. From luxury country house hotels to rustic woodland venues and elegant manor houses, couples are spoiled for choice when planning a wedding in this beautiful part of Hampshire. As a wedding magician performing across the South Coast, I regularly entertain at weddings throughout the New Forest and surrounding areas. One of the things I love most about working here is the variety of venues and the relaxed atmosphere couples create for their guests. Over the years, I’ve performed magic during drinks receptions, wedding breakfasts, evening receptions, and room turnarounds at many fantastic New Forest wedding venues. If you’re currently planning your wedding and looking for entertainment ideas, here are some of the venues I often recommend to couples. Rhinefield House Hotel Often called the “Jewel of the New Forest”, Rhinefield House is one of the most stunning wedding venues in Hampshire. The grand interiors and beautiful grounds make it ideal for elegant weddings. I frequently perform close-up magic here during the drinks reception while couples are having photographs taken outside. It’s a perfect way to keep guests entertained, laughing, and mingling while everyone settles into the day. Rhinefield House is also brilliant for table magic between courses during the wedding breakfast, helping maintain energy and excitement throughout the afternoon. Burley Manor Burley Manor has a relaxed luxury feel that works beautifully for modern weddings. The combination of countryside charm and stylish interiors creates an atmosphere where close-up magic fits naturally. Guests are usually spread across different spaces indoors and outdoors here, which makes roaming magic especially effective. Rather than interrupting the flow of the day, the entertainment becomes part of the atmosphere. One of the biggest compliments I hear from couples at Burley Manor is how magic helps bring different friendship groups and families together naturally. Careys Manor Hotel & SenSpa Careys Manor is a popular choice for couples wanting a sophisticated yet relaxed wedding venue in the New Forest. I regularly perform here during the turnaround period between the wedding breakfast and evening reception — one of the most underrated moments for wedding entertainment. While the venue team transforms the room for the evening party, guests can sometimes experience a lull in energy. This is where close-up magic works perfectly. It keeps guests engaged, creates conversation, and adds another memorable moment to the wedding. Pylewell Park Pylewell Park offers incredible coastal views and exclusive-use luxury, making it one of the standout wedding venues near the New Forest. Because weddings here often flow across multiple areas of the estate, close-up magic works brilliantly as a flexible form of entertainment. Guests can experience something unexpected whether they’re relaxing outside with a drink, exploring the grounds, or socialising indoors. This style of entertainment feels natural and interactive without ever interrupting the flow of the wedding. Balmer Lawn Hotel Balmer Lawn is ideal for couples wanting a classic New Forest wedding surrounded by woodland scenery. A wedding magician works particularly well at Balmer Lawn because the venue creates such a sociable atmosphere. Guests naturally gather in groups both inside and outside the venue, which is perfect for interactive close-up magic. I’ve performed at weddings here at various points throughout the day, helping maintain the atmosphere and giving guests something memorable to talk about between the big moments. Beaulieu Hotel & Palace House Beaulieu is one of the most unique wedding settings in the New Forest. From the historic surroundings to the stunning grounds, it creates an unforgettable experience for guests. Magic at Beaulieu weddings often becomes a real talking point because guests are already in a relaxed, celebratory mood. I particularly enjoy performing during outdoor drinks receptions here in the warmer months. Wedding magic also works brilliantly for mixed-age guest lists — something many New Forest weddings have. It gives guests of all ages something to enjoy together. Why Couples Choose a Wedding Magician in the New Forest One thing I’ve noticed from performing at New Forest weddings is that couples want their day to feel relaxed, personal, and memorable. That’s one of the reasons close-up magic has become so popular at modern weddings — it fits naturally into the atmosphere without ever feeling staged or intrusive. As mentioned throughout my wedding pages on Hampshire Magician, the goal is always to create genuine moments of laughter, conversation, and amazement that become part of the memories of the day. Close-up magic is perfect for that style of wedding because it: Unlike staged entertainment, wedding magic happens naturally among your guests, creating genuine reactions and unforgettable moments. Other Wonderful Wedding Venues in and Around the New Forest Over the years, I’ve also entertained at and around several other fantastic wedding venues that couples regularly consider when planning a New Forest wedding, including: Every venue has its own personality and flow to the day, which is one of the reasons I enjoy performing at New Forest weddings so much. Close-up magic works especially well because it adapts naturally to different venues, guest numbers, and wedding styles. Combined with venues such as Rhinefield House, Burley Manor, Careys Manor, Balmer Lawn, Pylewell Park, and Beaulieu, the New Forest offers an incredible variety of wedding locations — from luxury manor houses to rustic countryside celebrations. Having performed at many of these venues over the years, I’ve learned how to tailor the entertainment to suit the atmosphere, timings, and style of each individual wedding. Looking for a Wedding Magician in the New Forest? If you’re getting married in the New Forest and looking for entertainment that feels modern, interactive, and memorable, wedding magic can be the perfect addition to your day. Having performed at weddings across Hampshire and the New Forest, I understand how to work naturally within the flow of the day and adapt to different venues, timelines, and guest groups. Whether you’re planning an elegant manor house wedding, a relaxed countryside celebration, or a luxury hotel reception,

Creating Magic for Everyone: Why Inclusivity Matters in Close-Up Performance

As a professional close-up magician, I’ve always believed that magic should be something everyone can experience, enjoy, and remember. It’s not just about tricks or sleight of hand—it’s about connection, emotion, and creating moments that stay with people long after the event has finished. Recently, I had a powerful reminder of just how important inclusivity is in what I do. I was performing at a birthday celebration at Bartley Lodge in the heart of the New Forest. It was a fantastic event—great atmosphere, wonderful guests, and the kind of setting that makes live entertainment really shine. During the evening, I was introduced to a guest who was completely blind. She had no vision at all, and at first glance, you might assume that close-up magic—so often thought of as a visual art—wouldn’t translate. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Magic is not just something you see. It’s something you feel, hear, and experience. I took the time to adapt my performance so that it was fully engaging for her. Instead of relying on visual surprises, I focused on tactile magic—placing objects in her hands, guiding her through each moment, and using descriptive storytelling to build anticipation and wonder. The reactions were incredible. The laughter, the surprise, the genuine sense of amazement—it was all there, just experienced in a different way. In many ways, it was one of the most rewarding performances of the evening. That experience reinforced something I feel strongly about: inclusivity isn’t an “extra” in entertainment—it should be at the heart of it. Whether someone is visually impaired, hard of hearing, neurodiverse, or simply a bit shy in a social setting, a great performer finds ways to bring everyone into the moment. Every event is made up of individuals, and each person deserves to feel part of the experience. Performing across the New Forest and surrounding areas, I’ve been fortunate to work in some truly beautiful venues. Places like Beaulieu Inn, Careys Manor Hotel, Rhinefield House, and Balmer Lawn Hotel all offer unique settings for celebrations, weddings, and corporate events. No matter the venue, though, my approach remains the same: make the magic personal, engaging, and accessible to every guest in the room. Below is a short video summarising the performance and capturing some of the special moments from the evening. Because at the end of the day, magic isn’t about fooling people—it’s about including them. If you’re planning an event and want entertainment that goes beyond the ordinary, that connects with your guests on a real level, and that ensures no one is left out, I’d love to be part of it.

Craig Henderson Saxophonist

Why I Recommend Craig Henderson – Professional Saxophonist for Weddings & Events

A Personal Recommendation from a Working Magician As a magician performing at weddings, restaurants, cocktail bars, and corporate events, I’m often asked for recommendations on other entertainers who can truly enhance an event. One name I’m always happy to suggest is Craig Henderson, a professional saxophonist based just outside the Chichester area. Having seen him perform in a variety of settings, I can confidently say he brings something special to every event he’s part of.   Versatile Music to Suit Any Moment One of Craig’s biggest strengths is his versatility. Whether you’re looking to create a relaxed, elegant atmosphere or something more upbeat and engaging, he can tailor his performance perfectly. For drinks receptions or wedding breakfasts, his easy listening jazz sets provide a smooth, sophisticated backdrop. It’s the kind of music that enhances the atmosphere without overpowering conversation—ideal for setting the tone. Familiar Covers That Connect with Guests If you want to bring a more interactive and lively feel to your event, Craig also performs well-known covers that guests instantly recognise. These familiar tunes help create a shared experience, lifting the mood and keeping energy levels high without being intrusive. It’s a great way to bridge the gap between background music and full entertainment. Bringing Energy to Evening Celebrations When the evening party begins, Craig can take things to the next level. As a backing musician alongside a DJ or live band, his saxophone adds a dynamic and exciting edge. Live sax over a DJ set or band performance creates a real “wow” factor—something your guests won’t just enjoy, but remember long after the event.   Proven Experience at Quality Venues Craig may not have a huge online presence, but he’s steadily building a strong reputation where it matters most—live performances. He’s a regular at Newtown House Hotel for their popular summer music sessions and has performed at beautiful venues such as Froyle Park. These are well-regarded locations that demand quality, and Craig consistently delivers. He’s certainly no stranger to performing and brings confidence and professionalism to every event. Professional, Reliable and Fully Equipped From a practical point of view, Craig is incredibly easy to work with. He is fully self-contained, providing his own professional PA system, and all equipment is fully PAT tested for complete peace of mind. For event organisers and venues, this means a smooth, hassle-free setup and one less thing to worry about on the day.

Why You Don’t Need a “Content Creator” at Your Wedding

Weddings have always been about capturing memories but somewhere along the way, the focus has started to drift. With the rise of social media, “wedding content creators” have become a trendy add-on. But before you budget for one, it’s worth asking yourself a simple question: Is your wedding about preserving meaningful memories… or chasing likes from strangers online? Let’s be honest, you probably don’t need a content creator at all! Your Guests Already Have Cameras Look around at any event today and you’ll see it instantly: everyone has a phone, and everyone is already capturing moments. From candid laughs to emotional speeches, your guests will naturally record the day from multiple perspectives. Instead of paying someone to do essentially the same thing, you can make this work in your favour.   Set up a simple, central place where guests can upload their photos and videos, a shared Google Drive folder works perfectly. Make it even easier by creating a QR code that links directly to the upload page. Place it on tables, signage, or your order of service so guests can contribute throughout the day. It’s effortless, inclusive, and gives you a wide range of authentic, personal footage.   And remember, not everyone at your wedding is even thinking about social media. Some of your older guests may not use it at all, but they’ll still capture moments that are incredibly meaningful. Often, these are the most genuine clips, recorded without any thought of trends or timelines. More importantly, those same guests will want a simple, accessible way to watch your wedding film afterwards, not scroll through Instagram reels or TikToks. A properly produced wedding video gives them something they can easily sit down and enjoy, share with family, and revisit over time without needing to navigate social media at all. Worried About Too Many Phones? Keep It Simple If you’re concerned about guests spending too much time on their phones, there’s an easy solution: don’t ask everyone. Instead, nominate a handful of trusted people to capture moments throughout the day. This could be close friends, siblings, or even a couple of responsible kids at the wedding who will absolutely love being given an important “mission.” It keeps things controlled, reduces distraction, and still gives you plenty of varied, personal footage to look back on.   You Can Edit It Yourself Easily Once the day is over, you’ll have a collection of real, unfiltered moments from the people who matter most. From there, it’s surprisingly simple to create something special. Free apps like CapCut allow you to piece together clips, add music, and build a highlight video without needing any technical background. The truth is, this is exactly what many “content creators” are doing anyway, just with a price tag attached. What a Content Creator Isn’t This is where it’s important to be clear: a content creator is not a videographer. Most content creators don’t have formal training in filmmaking, storytelling, or audio production. They’re typically focused on quick, social-media-ready clips — often edited on mobile apps rather than professional software. That’s not necessarily a bad thing — but it’s very different from what you might expect when you think about capturing a once-in-a-lifetime day. If You Want Real Storytelling, Invest in a Professional If preserving your wedding memories properly matters to you, your investment is far better placed in a professional videographer. Take D&T Videography for example: https://www.dtvideography.com I’ve personally worked with Denise and Tony many times, and I can confidently say they are not only incredibly talented but also a genuinely calming presence on a wedding day, something couples don’t realise they need until the day arrives. They are a husband-and-wife team with years of experience, using professional cameras, drones and high-quality audio equipment to ensure nothing is missed. Their approach is all about storytelling, capturing the real atmosphere of the day, not staging moments for social media. They’re also recommended suppliers at a number of top venues across Hampshire, West Sussex, Surrey and the New Forest, which speaks volumes about the trust venues place in their professionalism and the quality of their work. Their website showcases many of the venues they regularly work at, giving you a real sense of their experience across a wide range of beautiful settings. This is the difference: not just clips for Instagram, but a carefully crafted film that captures the full story of your day, something you’ll come back to for years. So What Really Matters? At the end of the day, your wedding isn’t a content opportunity — it’s a personal milestone. You don’t need someone following you around creating posts for social media. You need memories. You need authenticity. You need something that will still feel special long after the algorithms have moved on. Your guests will capture the fun. You can piece together the casual moments yourself. And if you want something truly meaningful, invest in someone who knows how to tell your story properly. Because when it’s all over, it won’t be the likes that matter. It’ll be how it felt.

Why I Recommend Newtown House Hotel on Hayling Island

One of the questions I get asked a lot is: “Do you know any good wedding venues?” I’m always a bit careful with that. I work at a lot of weddings, so I see what venues are like when things are actually happening, not just how they look on a brochure. There are a few places I’m always happy to recommend without hesitation, and Newtown House Hotel on Hayling Island is one of them.   It’s Got That “Feels Right” Factor Some venues just feel right the moment you walk in, and this is one of them. Newtown House has that mix of character and comfort that’s hard to fake. It’s not overly polished or corporate. It’s relaxed, warm, and properly welcoming. The kind of place where guests settle in quickly and actually enjoy themselves instead of feeling like they have to behave a certain way. It’s an old building with loads of charm, but it doesn’t feel tired. It just works. Weddings Run Smoothly (Which Matters More Than People Think) This is the bit couples don’t always see when they’re choosing a venue, but it makes a massive difference on the day. Things run well here. The layout makes sense, the timings flow, and you don’t get that awkward “what’s happening now?” feeling you sometimes see elsewhere. People know where they’re going, the day moves naturally, and it all feels easy. From a supplier point of view, and as someone trying to entertain your guests, that makes a huge difference. It keeps the energy up and stops things dipping. The Team Are Genuinely Brilliant Honestly, this is the main reason I recommend it. The staff at Newtown House are just really, really good at what they do, but more importantly, they’re nice people. They look after everyone. Not just the couple, but the guests and the suppliers as well. And they do it without making a fuss about it. Nothing feels like too much trouble, and nothing feels rushed. You can always tell when a team actually cares, and that comes across here straight away.   From My Side It’s Always a Good One to Work At ’m there quite a bit performing as a wedding magician, and I also run quiz nights at the venue, so I’ve seen it in all sorts of situations. It’s consistently a good atmosphere. Guests are relaxed, up for it, and enjoying themselves, which isn’t always the case at every wedding. That kind of environment makes a big difference to how the whole day feels. And when the staff and venue are doing their thing properly, everything else just slots into place. It’s Not Just the Building Yes, it looks great. You’ve got the gardens, the character, the coastal location. All of that helps. But loads of venues look nice. What makes this one stand out is how it actually runs and how it feels when you’re there. That’s what makes me keep recommending it to couples who ask.
